FDT @ MultiMania 2011

May 24, 2011 by Carlo Matic

MultiMania 2011 is going to close its doors in the next couple of hours.

The FDT team was sponsor at this year’s conference again and we really loved what we experienced. The audience mainly consisted of young people, mostly students, who are interested in nearly all parts of multimedia. It was great to meet these young talents and the new generation of Flash and Flex developers.

The FDT team was there with a booth to give interested attendees a quick introduction of FDT’s great features. We also wanted to get feedback from users as well as non-users about what they expect from their “dream IDE”. We were simply stunned by the feedback and decided to take as much ideas as possible into the next major FDT release.

Thanks to our boothneighbours we never got a dry throat. 😉

Malte Beyers session “Into the Molehill – An inside view”

Watch the video of the session.

We heard rumors that the date for MultiMania 2012 is already sealed. The FDT team will definitely be part of it!

Flash On Games (FoG)

Multiscreen gaming with the Flash Platform – Desktop, Web and Devices

As you might know by now, at Powerflasher, we like to play! Plus, we think Flash and Gaming are a good match !

We are very excited to host together with Adobe our first Flash On Games (FoG) meeting, scheduled the 7th of Sept 2010

This is a flash gaming group located and hosted in San Francisco, focused and aim to involve audience and speakers at the national level. All sessions will be broadcasted live and recorded. A link to the webcast will be sent in a follow up email once registered. I hope you can join us.

Register here flashongames.eventbrite.com

In our first meeting we’ll have the following two session:

1. Flash Sizing Zen: Android Devices

Getting Android to Respect Your Intent

by Allen Ellison Solutions Architect @ Adobe

When you bring Flash games and content to the multi-screen web using Flash Player 10.1, it can be a challenge to get your content to displayed consistently across devices as you intended; in terms of size, orientation, alignment, interactivity and full-screen behavior. This becomes even more complex when you start taking web tablets into consideration.

There are a number of obstacles to creating a consistent and usable experience including mobile content transcoders, mobile devices that behave in certain ways to make a web experience really intended for desktop systems accessible to mobile users, an inconsistent use of HTML tags and meta-tags across device families, and user-configurable browser or device settings.

So, in order to create an experience that scales gracefully between desktop browsers and mobile browsers, this session will walk you through the steps necessary to eliminate the various potential points of variation.

2. Particle Systems 101

by Alec McEachran, Senior Software Engineer @ Gaia Interactive

If you have ever wanted fire, waterfalls, clouds, snow or myriad other effects in your Flash games, then you have needed to create particle systems. There are loads of particle effect systems out there that might suit your needs, but if you want your games to remain fast, you have to roll your own.

In pure AS3, this session will look at one way to build a fast particle system from the ground up, and survey some of the techniques for moulding your particles into the effects you’re looking to achieve.

FDT World Roadshow Prelude – quick feedback

October 9, 2008 by Carlo Matic

Hi folks,

I am sitting at Helsinki Airport for stopover, flying to FITC Seoul. I did not get the time yet to post some Feedback about our awesome Prelude Event in Boston.

First Off, thanks to the guys of InfraRed5, Slot3, Domani Studios and Harvard University! Without them, we would not have been able to host it.

A small crowd gathered in the Tsai Auditorium at Harvard University Campus (bye the way, one of the best I´ve ever seen).

A big crowd was glued to their screens while watching our live stream. We had more than 400 unique users on the stream and over 1200 Clicks on the stream link. We never ever thought of reaching so many people through this little event. So thank you for your attention!!!

We are now thinking more thoroughly of streaming our different sessions at our World Roadshow together with our streaming partner Slot3! So stay tuned for new infos about that.

Thanks also to the Speakers Marcel Fahle, Michael Plank, Chris Allen and André Michelle, it was great to be at your sessions!!

Cheers,

Frank

No Flash on Tap?!? FDT is still going to Boston, kickoff-event for 3.1 roadshow

September 15, 2008 by Carlo Matic

Hi folks,

we were recently informed that the 3-day conference “Flash on Tap” in Boston is “postponed”. As we were sponsoring this event, we were really sad to hear about this!

We were intending to officially launch our 3.1 version on this event, speak about our MXML-plans, and wanted to use the conference as a “kick-off” event for a roadshow around the globe. First we thought of not going to Boston at all, but now we changed plans again:

The FDT Team is coming to Boston, and we will host an “event to remember”!! Stay tuned as we are still in the planning process of setting things up. We will let you know in the next few days what is going to happen, where, who is part of it etc…

We will present a webpage with all necessary info and dates very soon!

cheers,
Frank
